badminton basics

I am Trying out for my high school Badminton team-what do I need to know?

In the coming 3-5 months I will be trying out for my high school's badminton team. I will be an incoming freshman when the seasons starts. I have played the game before and know basics, but what do I really need to know for high school try outs? Details are welcome!!!!

I don't really know how well you play badminton. If you are a beginner who just knows the rules, the following are the basic things you have to watch out for:

1) Balance: Always stand firmly on your two feet when you complete your shot. This way, you'll be ready for your opponent's response. As far as possible, you must have maximum balance while hitting your shots. This sounds very basic, but most beginners forget it while playing.

2) While playing singles, you must hit your shot and remember to return to the middle of your half of the court (or whichever point you feel is comfortable for you to take your next shot).

3) Serve: For singles, you usually serve high and back. You must have enough control to place the serve close to the back line of the court. This requires a lot of practice. For doubles, you have to use a variety of short serves - these should just clear the net and the short line. This kind of serve is the most important in doubles. Again, requires practice. Take a lot of shuttles and practice alone in a court. See where each serve lands and correct the next serve.

4) Hitting from end to end: This requires practice and the help of an intermediate/experienced player on the other side of the court. Both of you must try to hit from your respective ends of the courts, with the shuttle maintaining at least 10 ft height in flight. This will help you learn how to impart enough speed to the shuttle in your shots.

5) Judgment: When your opponent hits a shot, you must be able to judge whether the shot will land inside/outside the court. You will learn this only when you play a lot. Experienced players can judge an out even if the shuttle is off the out line by just a few centimeters.

Badminton Basics

Badminton advice!?

I have to do Badminton for PE three times a week, and I suck. I played a bit last year and made a fool of myself. Problem = I can't hit the shuttle, I always miss. I can't even serve properly. 70% of the time, the neck of the racquet (racket?) hits the shuttle (when I serve). And when I try to hit the shuttle back, I just miss.

And I'm not willing to practice ^^, I just want to know some basics so I don't completely embarass myself.
Thanks, no time to practice anyway :p

I'm sorry to say, but there is no way someone will get better without practice ^^'

No one is born pro in a sport.

The funny thing about badminton, is that everyone has his or her own style in playing.

To serve underhand, you USUALLY, stand forward, BUT face diagonally (right or left, depending on where you want to serve) Use your weaker hand (unless your ambidexterous, if you are...you have a HUGE advantage in badminton) to drop the shuttle at the height of around your neck (depending on your height) It's better to drop it at a good height because it will usually give you more time to swing forward and follow-through.

Once you drop it, you basically 'scoop' it up and as you face diagonally, follow the movement of your racket. When you swing, have your racket behind you, and move it to hit the shuttlecock WITHOUT bending your arm UNTIL you have hit it.

There are a lot of factors on how to hit it, like your own body type, how you feel more comfortable, and such and such. If you really like Badminton and you are devoted to it, then you MUST practice. Otherwise if you aren't devoted to it, it doesn't matter much. Badminton isn't like playing cards. It's just like Tennis. Without practice, you would most likely hit the tennis ball everywhere.

Just practice and good luck :D Hope this helped!

Youve tolerated this for 5 years? Im guessing he has another family or wife stashed somewhere else. He is hiding you so no one finds out. You need to get someone you know to follow him around and find out whats really going on.
