buy badminton racket

Need help finding a pro badminton racket?
Hi.. I'm a very advanced badminton player. I need some suggestions for a new racket.. I'm looking for a Yonex racket, and I don't care about the price. Should I buy a Yonex Nanospeed 9900 Badminton Racket (2009), a Yonex Arcsaber Z-Slash, or something else ? ? I would like this racket to last a very long time..
Good question.
OK, you've got your mind set on Yonex and the rackets you mention are all top grade. I'd also include Arcsaber 10, Armortec 900 Power and Technique too.
The Nanospeed 9900 is a very fast racket as it's got a very light head. Makes you razor sharp around the net and in defence and it's a favourite racket of many doubles pros.
Arcsaber Z Slash is relatively new from Yonex having been released last November. It's got a bit more weight in the top of the head, a longer shaft which makes it more flexible and a new head shape which is slightly smaller than conventional rackets. Z Slash is very aero-dynamic and cuts through the air really fast. So much so, that this, combined with the longer shaft, can make it difficult to get used to. It can be slightly slower than 9900 in defence and net area though.
This combination has a tendency to make timing the shuttle difficult at times. Just when you think you've got it tamed, it throws in another mis-timed shot. But, when you do get it right, Z Slash weilds tremendous power.
Whether you have the racket a long time will depend on clashes with your partners. At this level, the rackets are just as susceptible to breakage from a collision as a cheaper racket.
If you can, check out your local Yonex retailer and ask for a demonstration racket. At least then you're actually hitting a shuttle and getting a feel for the racket rather than swishing it around in a shop.
For more in depth reviews on each racket, please go to my blog at www.badminton-coach.co.uk
Hope this helps you choose but do please keep an open mind on the other racket choices I've mentioned.
To your success.
Paul
