This is for Stan Mc Neil,he apparently does not know talent in the basketball sport give him badmiton,The Hornets are younger friend and hungrier,Their is no team left that can beat the hornets in a seven game series so if you want to look like you know what you are talking about you might want to look at the facts, we have been told we are a mirror image of the spurs only younger and hungrier ,the Hornets are happy to play the Spurs,we will light them up,I know the players and attitude so I am confident,maybe i can take your job Bozo,even when the Celtics kicked the spurs ass in San Antonio ,the Celtics ran into trouble in New Orleans,thank god for the hornets to represent the west da,Have a great day and stick to the couch

Having Disc Bulge - can i do swimming & play Badmiton? I am 24 years old!?


Hi... I am 24 years old and i love to swim and play Badminton. Recently i started getting back pain radiating thru my right limb. MRI report summary says:
Mild Primary Lumbar Canal Stenosis & Diffuse Disc Bulge @ L4-L5 level.
Can i continue playing Badminton and do swimming? Please advice!

Here is the problems that you are faced with. Swimming while a great sport is not the wonderful activity that people and doctors think it is. Water while it is buoyant does not take away the changes that occur when swimming. Form is everything in this activity. If your neck is too high in the water it causes changes and stress in the lower back that are negative. If the head is too low it will also cause problems in the lower back. So while you may have been swimming for a long time it now becomes important for you to see a coach about your form. If it is good then by all means do it. If it is not then you are going to have to correct it or you will continue to have problems. Badminton is an activity that might seem to be a relaxing and slow movement activity but in reality it is not. There are sudden spurts of running and twisting to return the shuttlecock. It is the twisting and bouncing movements that are my concern. They are going to place stress in the lower back. What I would strongly suggest to you is that a referral to a physical therapist would be in order. You want someone that is going to look at your posture from the feet up to the head. If there are corrections to be made then you are going to have to work on those areas. Posture continually comes up in back patients as movement away from plumb causes extra stress upon the body in different areas with negative results. Another aspect of this examination is that they should be looking at the balance of your musculature. By that I mean that the hamstrings are strong enough to offset the strength of the quadriceps, the gluteals are strong enough to offset the hip flexors and so forth. If you are not in muscular balance what happens is that the body develops patterns of tightness and weakness that continue to perpetuate this problem. That for you especially with central canal stenosis will increase the stress in that area. You need to be with a therapist that will work with you on reestablishing the position of the disc away from the exiting nerves. Once done this should relieve much of your problems. It must always be remembered that you have two separate problems in the back. The stenosis or narrowing of the central canal is always going to be there unless you opt for a surgical intervention, not recommended unless all other options fail, and the disc issue. The disc issue can be managed through postural control techniques which can be shown to you in therapy. The stenosis can be managed again through posture and muscular balancing. I would recommend that you avoid activities that include jumping, running, and twisting as these will place considerable stress on the lower back.
