badminton tips for singles

Things to remember when going to your first badminton tourny?

going to my first badminton tourny wednesday, i am 15, its a really important tournament, just looking for some tips or strategies of somewort for singles, thank-you!

1. Try to stay calm and relaxed. If you're anything like me, when I played my first tournament I was so nervous I mishit practically every shot and my smashes were terribly off.
2. Stay hydrated but not too hydrated. Gatorade is good but not 4 bottles of it.
3. If you have some time do some cardio training like running or jump rope. If you and your opponent are near the same skill level, the ability to keep going longer than your opponent might be the difference between a win and a loss.
4. Eat a lot of carbs: rice, bread, noodles, pasta the day/night before. It'll give you energy for the next day.
5. Try to only smash when you have a good shot/position. Otherwise, you'll only waste energy making easy to receive smashes and throw yourself off balance to make the next shot.
6. Have fun! Tourneys are a lot of fun and the experience is awesome. I always improve a lot even if I lose terribly at the tourney. Besides, it's your first tourney so don't be so hard on yourself if things don't go as planned.
