Am I related to Henry Somerset 7th Duke of Beaufort?
My dad asked someone to do research about our family in England and she said we were related to him. He would be my great great great grandpa. My great great great grandmother lived in Gloucestershire. Apparently Henry was young and didn't want to look after their child. Also some of my relatives look look like some of the Somerset family. My dad sent a letter to the Badminton house but they denied we were related to him because there were no records of it.
There are lots of companies out there who will take money from people like your Dad.....they are scams.
If you wrote to the family you want to claim relation to, and they have no record of your relation....you have probably been scammed.
If you really want to pursue it, then you will have to contact someone like Debrett's.
I would let it drop.....the peers are fairly careful about retaining every shred of documentary proof about their families...and it is unlikely that you have any claim to their estate or their money....so no reason to just tell you that you are not "one of them".
